Background

Music is the language with which life speaks to us. Rhythms, motions of life, memories, come alive in music, in tandem with the mathematical synchronization of its beats. Music is indispensable to the world as we know. It plays with the primary sense of sound, creating an entire musical world out of them for us to immerse ourselves in. The story of music is perhaps the story of humanity itself. Different cultures, histories, communities, have kept their stories alive through various musical instruments, rhymes, rhythms, and songs.

Despite this extensive and ubiquitous presence of music, our educational systems find themselves under equipped to train children and young adults in the art. This is especially true for students and children from underserved communities, who despite interest in the field and a talent for it find themselves struggling with a lack of resources to access guidance and mentorship in the world of music. The global pandemic has exacerbated this issue by weakening public and other systems of education. Thus, there is an urgent need to create open, free access to the world of music for those who wish to partake in it.
